Lightning protection System (LPS) WARNING SIGN

Stop All outdoor activities. Seek shelter in a substantial building or metal bodied hard-top vehicle. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard to resume activities.

According to SS 555 Part 3 : 2018 LPS warning sign (minimum size of 210mm by 297mm) shall be provided at entrances to habitable and non-habitable maintenance roof space to draw attention to danger of lightning strikes from approaching thunderstorm.

This sign is recommended for open spaces such as penthouse open terrace, roof garden, roof multi-storey carpark, roof amenities such as sport facilities, swimming pools, café etc.

For Site Inspection Report for Residential Landed House (Built for The Owner’s Own Use),  Appendix B: Guideline for Supervising PE (Electrical) to provide photographs for lightning protection system, in lieu of physical site inspection to show LPS warning sign is provided at entrances to habitable and non-habitable roof spaces.

Under normal operating conditions no person shall be within 3 metres from the lightning protection down conductors.

According to SS 555 Part 3 : 2018, the vicinity of the down conductors of LPS may be hazardous to life. The hazard is reduced to a tolerable level with different conditions. One of the conditions is under normal operating conditions there are no person within 3 m from the down conductors. If conditions can not be fulfilled, protection measures such as warning notices shall be adopted against injury to living beings due to touch and step voltages by minimize the probability of access to dangerous area, within 3 m of the down conductor.
